Areas of Photography Specialization
Joanne ScherfS
I struggle with the typical boxes and niche one is usually asked to define themselves. I resist to be narrowly defined so I express myself in a variety of ways. The majority of my work is abstract, experiential, and contemporary; overall an exploration of the unlimited possibilities in the pursuit of emotional expression over observed reality. My image interpretation tends to be abstract expressionism of organic materials derived from nature, landscape or environment. Yet visual anthropology to document the social and organic landscape of America is another creative path of mine. As you can see, my areas of passion and expertise are many:
Image-Making Specialties:
- Fine art
- Abstract/metaphor
- Landscape
- Street/cityscape
- Architecture
- Portraiture
- Alternative: iPhoneography
Business of Art Consulting Services:
- Brand Identity
- Marketing
- Portfolio review
- Communication coaching for artist statements, narratives, and grant writing
"All photographs are metaphors. Photography is internal vision. You can only see outside in proportion to your inward consciousness, and I would call the photographs I make 'inner landscapes' rather than landscapes as such. All my photographs are equivalents". Wm. Giles
